Who we are
Celebration of Frights is a free, volunteer-run Halloween house tour in Sarnia, Ontario, organized by Crystal Boulton.
What we collect, and why
This site doesn't collect any personal information from visitors. There are no accounts, sign-up forms, or emails to visitors, and we don't ask for your name, email, phone number or location.
- Sponsor clicks: when you tap or dismiss the sponsor (Million Dollar Vault) placements, we save the name of that action and the page it happened on (for example, a click on the map page). No IP address, device details or account is saved with it. We use it only to count how often the sponsor links are used.
- Hosting logs: our host, Vercel, keeps standard server logs of requests (such as IP address and the page requested) to keep the site running and secure. We don't use these logs to identify visitors.
- Registering a house: registration happens through Crystal Boulton's Google Form. Your name, email and phone number stay in that form, stored by Google, not by us. We copy only the street address (and the map pin made from it) and the category you picked onto the map.
What's public on the map
For approved houses only: the house name, street address, map pin, description, and scare rating. Anyone can see these and get directions to the house.
Who else sees your information
A small group of volunteer organizers manages the listings. We don't sell or share information, and we don't use it for advertising.
Services we use
These companies run parts of the site for us. Our database is hosted in Canada (Supabase, Montréal). Some services that run parts of the site process data in the United States, where it may be subject to local laws.
- Supabase: our database
- Vercel: website hosting
- Google Maps: the map and directions. Your browser loads it from Google, so Google receives your IP address when the map loads (see Google's privacy policy).
- OpenStreetMap (Nominatim) and Natural Resources Canada: used by the organizers to turn a house's street address into a map pin. Only the street address, town and postal code are sent.
Cookies and local storage
No advertising or tracking cookies. Google Maps may set technical cookies it needs for the map. If you close the sponsor bar, your browser remembers that with a small flag in local storage on your own device (nothing is sent to us), so the bar stays closed.
Your choices
Because we don't collect personal information from visitors, there is nothing of yours for us to see, correct or delete. If you registered a house and want to change or remove it, that is handled by the organizer, Crystal Boulton.
Kids
The tour is for families, but houses should be added by an adult who lives there.
Changes and concerns
If this page changes, we'll update the date at the top. If we ever want to collect information in a new way, we'll say so here first. If you have a concern, you can reach the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
